This Thursday, I'll be participating to a round table in Madrid on "New spaces for digital art vol. II", talking about our, uh, old bricks & mortar space iMAL, I guess ;)

Open Call

"In the frame of the artistic research *Clearing up the mist*, supported by FrART, Tangible Cloud is organizing two collective work sessions in Brussels. The first one will take place from May 18 to 21, 2022 and the second from June 21 to 24, 2022.

These worksessions will propose an exploratory and interdisciplinary approach, in the form of conferences and practical workshops. From a close reading of the Cloud, we will tinker together vocabularies, speculative devices and prototypes, aiming to propose counter-narratives to Cloud Computing.

Application are open until Sunday, April 30, 2022."

#Nubo the #coop for privacy protecting mail and cloud services has been launched!
If you are in #Brussels tomorrow Thursday 03/02, there is a launch event in the window exhibition @constant Rue du Fortstraat 5, 1060

On monday I'm presenting a paper on during the 'Computing within #Limits' conference.

In the paper I'm describing the design choices we made, such as designing for unavailability and how they were based on reducing a few key metrics such as data transferred, calculations per request and use of third party services. This opens up a way of thinking about #degrowth and ICT. We should be looking in to that waaaay more.

The paper also tries to implicitly answer the 'how do we do sustainable web design?' question and argues aiming for reduction (of bytes transferred, computation and infra required) as useful rule of thumbs guiding a design. That is to say, solar protocols, 'low tech look', 3.5MB dithered images, green CDNs etc ain't it.

However, it also self-criticizes for the fact that it is so unreproducible and a very limited and 'easy' use case. So yeah no answer but thinking through degrowth should definitely be considered as the direction of the answer..
