For the next two months we're very pleased to have Studio Above&Below in residency at iMAL Founded by Daria Jelonek and Perry-James Sugden, Studio Above&Below is a London-based art, design and technology studio.

Their residency project at iMAL will lead to an immersive experience and speculative future scenario which explores Brussels ecosystem in regards to the present and future coexistence between humans and non-human species.

It’s with great pride that we can announce the selected artists who will become part of the 25AV 2023 official roster!

Out of an impressive pool of 279 applicants, the independent committee has selected 18 eclectic and diverse artistic couples. The 18 selected projects are exhibited in 3 leading art spaces in Milan at Triennale Milano, in Munich at ZIRKA and in Brussels at iMAL. 3 projects will also be selected for a residency at iMAL.

Next Thursday we're hosting the first Creative Meetup at iMAL.

Creative Meetup is a Belgian event gathering visual artists, videographers, designers, musicians, architects, programmers and researchers using creative coding tools. For this very first edition, you are invited to discover the working processes and tools of three artists: Mathieu Zurstrassen, Martin Pirson, Isjtar

On the 20th of November Laser Talks Brussels is back with two amazing artists: roelheremans & Esther Venrooij.

This evening revolves around attentive listening through the work of two artist-researchers that create immersive sound installations, sound landscapes, or films in which listening triggers the imagination and creates a special relationship with the audience.

Together with Gluon we've been developing different workshops with schools where we challenge students to prototype innovative solutions using a PlugNPlay toolbox of sensors and the online platform plugnplay.gluon.be.

On Saturday 19.11 we present a free showcase that will present the PlugNPlay project with a variety of participants showing the results of their experiments with the toolbox.

Today marks the opening of the Biennale Chroniques where Belgium is a guest of Honour this year. iMAL is very proud to be a close partner of the Biennale, as the co-producer of 3 works on view:

iMAL is launching Realities In Transition together with lead-partner Biennale Chroniques and in collaboration with L.E.V. Festival, KONTEJNER, Ars Electronica, Dark Euphoria & V2_

Realities In Transition will focus on building a strong independent European XR creative and activist community, a think tank and practice sharing net, all within the context of the ever changing digital challenges.

We’re very happy to have Myriam Bleau & Pierce Warnecke as artists in at iMAL! They are currently working on their new project, The End Product, a meditation on the hidden mechanisms behind our personal commodified feedscapes; an a/v performance that blurs the codes between artists and audience.

25AV is a brand new platform for audiovisual arts & performance by , Radio Raheem and Radio 80000 !

iMAL, together with Triennale Teatro and ZIRKA are partners of the project, and will host the offline programme of 25AV.

Today, the platform launches an for European music producers & visual artists, inviting them to partner up and submit their joint candidature by 14 October !

This fossil bears the traces of non-autonomous forms (viruses) seeking to subsist in the metabolism of archaic bacteria in the mineral. The affected bacteria thus followed the pattern of a cactoid formation within the pebble, creating the first micro-organic formations visible to the naked eye today.

The European Media Art Platform (EMAP), co-funded by Creative Europe, just opened its new for projects! European or collectives can apply with a proposal for a two-months taking place between March & October 2023.

The cultivation of “Plasma Locanicus” by digital means has made it possible to reconstitute this colony-dwelling species. Plasma Locanicus have biological strategies of reverse evolution that the scientific world did not know about until recently.

Now in residency at our Fablab is Ugo Dehaes. He'll be working on his project Moving Skin, the first in a series of kinetic sculptures that blurs the line between the real and the artificial body.
